Meeting Minutes

Meeting Highlights:

  • The meeting o pened at 6:30pm. There were eight (8) attendees.
  • Opening exercise conducted (Who has most influenced your work with children?).
  • Agenda was reviewed and accepted.
  • Network needs were discussed and decisions reached.
  • ECCDC Network Participant Handbooks were distributed to new attendees. A Winter Programming Resource display was highlighted and a ‘make and take’ session provided.
  • Next Meeting date: Tuesday, April 17, 2007 from 6:30 – 8:30pm.

Information, Ideas and Tips Shared:

  • The group shared stories of those individuals who most influenced their work with children. Examples included parents and grandparents and professional colleagues.
  • The group broke into pairs to discuss the challenges of winter programming, particularly when outside play is not appropriate. A brainstorming technique of beginning with ‘impossible and outrageous ideas’ was used to start the discussion. The pairs then shared a variety of plausible and implausible ideas with the whole group. The workable ideas shared included: tropical or dance parties, movies, and themed exploration of winter animals and sports

Work produced, actions taken or decisions reached:

  • The group reviewed the list of ‘Out of the Box’ session topics available to them and used voting to select a session topic for the next meeting (What’s So Positive About Positive Discipline?)
  • Attendees were provided an opportunity to explore the Winter Programming resources and participate in a ‘Make and Take’ activity

Upcoming events and sector news:

  • The following are ongoing topics and issues the group has identified as possibilities for future meetings: After-school programming ideas, information on special needs supports available, multicultural sensitivity, communication (staff/parents), and team building

Resources required for next meeting:

  • ECCDC Out of the Box session (What’s So Positive About Positive Discipline?) and corresponding resource display
  • Next Meeting date: Tuesday, April 17, 2007 from 6:30 – 8:30pm at the ECCDC
