Biography - Mary Joan Furtney

Mary Joan Furtney joined the Early Childhood Community Development Center in September 2006 as part time Early Learning and Child Care Resource Consultant. In this role she is responsible for supporting library members in selecting developmentally appropriate educational materials and designing rich early learning environments for young children. Mary Joan also has responsibility for processing resource library members and training registrations and responding to inquires from parents looking for information regarding child care services and options.

Mary Joan trained as an Early Childhood Educator and later as a Resource Teacher and worked for many years in the profession as a teacher, supervisor and in the last 11 years, as a Program Coordinator before leaving Family and Children’s Services. Upon returning to the workforce, Mary Joan was fortunate to continue in her chosen profession and acquire a position at the ECCDC.

Assisting children and their families to develop to their fullest potential within her role here at the ECCDC and in past positions has been most rewarding for Mary Joan. However, a high point in her career was to successfully relocate FACS’ Rainbow Nursery School from a church to a public school in order to ensure higher visibility for the Early Learning and Parenting Program.

Mary Joan is passionate and fully dedicated to promoting the positive development of today’s children who will in terms be tomorrow’s leaders.
