Training and Events Testimonials

Here's what attendees had to say about some of the trainings and events offered in the last issue of Esteem - January to March 2013.

Mitten Magic: An Interactive literacy Workshop for Early Childhood Educators
The resources were amazing and the ideas provided were great for my programs.
I learned that literacy is everywhere and you can use everything around you to enhance emergent learning.
What I found to be most meaningful was how words and visuals work, even with young children to encourage learning.

The Communication Toolbox: Strategies for Communicating Effectively, Assertively and Clearly
I will be able to use this information and experience in my daily work as it will help me to discover more about people in my workplace, both co-workers as well as children.
Michael's personal insight was most meaningful. He related back to real experiences.
I found the entire presentation to be meaningful. Michael was very knowledgeable. I loved his examples.

Standard First Aid and CPR Recertification
I feel confident that I have the knowledge to make quick and informed decisions under pressure.
I really enjoyed the training. The presenter was wonderful, very knowledgeable!

Transforming Our Work: Reflective Teaching to Meet Up with Children'ts Lively Minds
The real life program stories were so inspiring.
It has been so many years since I have reflected with so much depth. Lorrie and Anne Marie inspired me to take that personal leap.
I was given a lot of ideas to think about. I will be able to go back and look at my program with fresh eyes.
Reflection will definitely be a part of my daily routine moving forward.
I would like to attend more institutes to learn more!

Designing Innovative Home Based Early Learning Environments to Foster Children’s Play Based Learning
I can take the information and experience that I have learned and apply it in setting up an environment that is natural and inviting for the children in my care.
I have gotten lots of ideas to add to my home child care program and ways to expand on things I already have.
I will use the information that I have learned here today to educate the parents of the children in my care.

Teacher Talk Training A: Encouraging Language Development in Early Childhood Settings
Debbie kept me interested in all topics we were discussing today. She is very knowledgeable!
I learned how to properly approach and interact with children in different stages of language development.
Debbie shared some great resources that I will also be able to share with others.
The video clips were very useful in helping me to better understand how to interact with children of different language styles.

Workplace Personalities and How to Work With Them
This was a great workshop! Michael Lewis made it fun, very enjoyable.
It is great to be aware of the personalities of others. It will allow me to be more empathetic towards them and better understand where they may be coming from.
I now have strategies of how to better communicate with the people around me.

Designing Innovative Early Learning Environments to Foster Children’s Play Based Learning
Jen and Jodi shared many great activities for various different learning styles which I will be able to take back and apply in my own centre.
What I found to be most meaningful is that I have now learned how to scaffold the children’s learning more efficiently.
They provided me with great ideas for cost effective materials and how to make learning environments more home-like for the children.

Further Explorations of Play and Autism: A Workshop Provided by Autism Spectrum Disorders School Support Program
Excellent ideas on how to engage a child in play situations one on one.
It is hard to choose one thing that is most meaningful. The small differences you can make, like face to face play, interacting in play with the child, they are all great tips!
What I found most informative was ways to play, interact, and reinforce behaviours with children.

Thinking Beyond Theme Based Program Planning in Your Home Child Care Program
Talking about scaffolding and observations was the most meaningful to me. It helped me to better grasp the concepts.
The Emergent approach affects the development of the children in an environment where they can explore and not be forced to do things which don’t interest them.
I will try to change to a play based learning focus in my home child care centre.

Learning Two Languages: Understanding Bilingualism
What I found to be most informative was learning about the different stages that a child goes through when learning a second language.
This workshop helped me to understand how difficult and long-term the learning of a second language is for the child in my program.
I learned that milestones in bilingual children may be delayed a couple of months and that is normal.

“Once I Caught A Fish Alive”: An Interactive Literacy Workshop for Early Childhood Educators
Excellent ideas were provided to enhance math concepts in the everyday function of the classroom.
I loved all of the handouts and resources provided by Nancy. Great ideas!
Great for literacy support in the classroom.
